Lacey Fire District 3 is currently accepting applications to fill the position of Accounting Specialist reporting to the Finance Director. Under general supervision, the Accounting Specialist administers the Fire District’s accounts payable and accounts receivable systems. Regular and reliable attendance, exceptional attention to detail and a positive work ethic are paramount to successful job performance.

Primary Duties

1. Administers the District’s accounts payable and accounts receivable systems under the
direction of the District’s Finance Director.
2. Maintains, reviews and evaluates AP/AR data for accuracy, consistency, and adopted
administrative policies; resolves discrepancies and suggests corrective action.
3. Performs accounts payable and accounts receivable functions independently and on a
routine and recurring basis. Tasks may include preparation of unique or original documents
and correspondence.
4. Pays authorized claims/invoices using warrants and purchasing card.
5. Assists members and external vendors with accounts payable or accounts receivable
inquiries, communicating potentially complex information in a professional manner.
6. Monitors accounts payable and accounts receivable regulatory requirements for the District
and ensures compliance with those regulatory requirements.
7. Performs daily banking duties of all receipts using both electronic (County Treasurer) and
in-person (Commercial Bank) deposit methods.
8. Performs initial monthly reconciliation of all fund activity.
9. Prepares monthly financial reports for leadership and Commissioners.
10. Prepares annual combined excise tax report and annual 1099 and 1096 vendor payment
11. Monitors agreements with other governmental and non-governmental entities and
administers related accounts payable and accounts receivable functions in compliance with
those agreements.
12. Assists in audit preparation and response as required.
13. Provides support to the Payroll Administrator and payroll/benefits processes as required.
14. Works as a productive, positive member of the Finance team.
15. Participates in ongoing education and training opportunities necessary for the job.
16. Performs other duties as appropriate to the position and as assigned.


Requires AA degree in accounting or closely related field, or any combination of experience, education, and training that would provide the level of knowledge, skills and abilities. Successful experience in accounting is also required, preferably in governmental accounts payable and accounts receivable. Must have knowledge and understanding of governmental fund accounting basics and the ability to reconcile bank accounts. Experience working with governmental or enterprise financial software is necessary.
