The City of Tukwila is a dynamic suburb of Seattle, Washington. A unique city, Tukwila is one of the most diverse communities in the country, with more than 80 languages spoken in its schools. Also located in Tukwila is the largest retail mall in the Pacific Northwest. While less than 20,930 people reside in Tukwila, more than 47,000 work in the City every day and more than 125,000 go in and out of the city daily. The City has 325 FTEs, 90 temporary extra labor and nine labor unions. Tukwila is a full-service city, with its own Police and Fire departments, as well as a Public Works department.
The Finance Department provides comprehensive, transparent services that protect the financial health of the City of Tukwila. Day-to-day services and long-term planning and activities are efficient, accurate, and professional. It is also responsible for utility billing and collection, Local Improvement District (LID) billing and business licenses. In addition, the Finance Department takes the lead on the City’s biennial budget process, as well as budget amendments that may occur. The Department follows Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or Government Accounting Standards Board pronouncements (GASB), as well as State guidelines, in carrying out its many duties.
The Department is seeking a Fiscal Coordinator/Accountant to perform professional level accounting activities involving research, evaluation and development of financial recommendations for City departments; drafts systems and procedures for compiling, tracking and monitoring financial accounts; prepares budgetary projections; provides financial assistance to fiscal support staff.
Manages, tracks, and maintains assigned accounts, funds, contracts, and functions for assigned division, and performs related activities such as preparing general journal entries, reconciling accounts, reviewing contracts for compliance with terms and conditions or accounts for consistency with generally accepted accounting principles, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. Responds to inquiries, audits, and surveys relating to assigned functions.
Prepares and maintains complex reports, statements, schedules, and documents for major financial projects such as year-end projections, special management financial review and audits, and for Federal and State agencies, Council, and departments; and assists in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
Develops internal controls and accounting policies and procedures that ensure governmental accounting and legal compliance; and ensures compliance.
Researches files and account historical records; reviews and evaluates information obtained; and provides historical comparisons and financial forecasts for revenues and expenditures.
Checks accuracy of financial tracking systems by testing, maintaining, and evaluating financial information in the systems.
Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the standard work week.
Compiles, monitors, maintains and analyzes City budget information; prepares budget documents, budgetary projections, statistical analysis, and recommendations.
Manages, tracks, and maintains general ledger accounts, and performs related activities such as preparing general journal entries, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with changing laws and regulations.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and three (3) years of related governmental accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Valid Driver’s License.

Credit Check Required
Experience using Microsoft 365 Platform and MS Teams.
Experience assisting with the preparation of the ACFR as well as performing technical accounting duties in a municipal government.
Experience preparing monthly reoccurring journal entries.
Experience completing monthly bank reconciliations.
Experience with BARS accounting structure.
Experience managing and reporting of Capital Assets.
Experience serving elected officials and the public, working across department divisions.
Ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base.
