The City of Olympia’s Finance Department seeks an exceptional professional to join our General Accounting Team as a Project/Grants Accountant.

Primary Duties

-Assisting with preparation of annual capital facility budget and estimating end of the year carryover funds;
-Working closely with City departments in tracking project costs in comparison to budgeted projections;
-Monitoring, analyzing and reconciling revenue and expenditures related to capital project and grant portfolios;
-Tracking the compilation of project costs into Capital asset accounts, and close out of those accounts once the related projects have been completed;
-Record Capital asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system;
-Run and record depreciation calculations for all Capital assets;
-Reviewing and preparation of monthly financial statements;
-Reconciling specific general ledger accounts;
-Preparing grant reimbursement requests;
-Preparing fiscal grant and capital project reports;
-Reconciling impact fee and transportation benefits district transaction reports;
-Assisting with department outreach activities to provide grant compliance training and support; and
-Compiling year-end reports and assisting with annual financial report preparation;


-Strong problem solving and analytical skills;
-Working knowledge of federal and state regulations related to capital projects and grants;
-Proficiency in utilizing technology to compile statistical and financial reports;
-Working knowledge of Washington State Budgeting, Accounting, and Reporting System (BARS);
-Attention to detail and accuracy;
-Expertise in Excel or other financial applications;
-Ability to identify complex problems and develop and evaluate options for solutions;
-Ability to communicate complex and challenging issues both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences;
-Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate within a team; and
-Sense of Humor
