Olympia’s Finance Department is seeking an exceptional individual to join our Team as the Tax and License Financial Analyst. The successful candidate will focus on the City’s tax, license and revenue programs. The ideal candidate will possess advanced data analysis skills.

About Fiscal Services

The Finance Department is one of 10 City departments. Our team of 19 full-time employees, includes three managers, and provides city-wide services for: accounts payable, billing and collection, budget, cash and debt management, financial reporting, investments, payroll, project and grant accounting and fleet administration.

Primary Duties

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

Responsible for a wide variety of accounting tasks. Prepare, audit, balance, and analyze reports or other financial statements.
Receive and process documents representing a variety of financial transactions.
Review transactions for accuracy and against other accounting system criteria.
Maintain journals, ledgers and other complex financial records.
Develop standard and complex financial statements reflecting generally accepted accounting standards and practices.
Prepare and process quarterly and monthly excise tax and other returns.
Perform capital facilities project accounting and reporting.
Interpret detailed agreements and rules and apply them to specific transactions.
Audit the records of a variety of local businesses for compliance with business and taxation laws and regulations.
Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.


Minimum qualifications & Requirements
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Tax and Licensing

Ability to interpret complex municipal code for compliance by licensees.
Skills to audit and enforce regulatory and revenue requirements of license, city imposed taxes, and business tax ordinances.
Skill to examine and review tax returns for mechanical accuracy and proper classification and reporting.
Ability to analyze of revenue accounts to determine trends.
Ability to handle very high periodic levels of data entry.
Ability to work with contract auditors.
Ability to assist in preparation of proposed changes in laws, ordinances, and regulations.
